Dr Saul Berkovitz BChir MB MRCP MFHom
Dr Berkovitz was appointed Clinical Director of the RLHIM in January 2015. He graduated from Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge in 1989, and from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in 1993. He became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1997.
His interest in complementary and integrated medicine started whilst studying the History of Medicine as a medical student, and he later became the first doctor in the UK to complete a joint training program in both orthodox and complementary medicine. He has been working at the RLHIM since 1996 and as a consultant since 2004. He has postgraduate qualifications in Allergy, Western herbal medicine (Phytotherapy), acupuncture and homeopathy.
Dr Berkovitz runs the Allergy and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome services for UCLH NHS Trust. In addition he treats patients with a wide range of chronic medical problems, using complementary medicine safely and effectively alongside orthodox medicine.
In 2006 he set up the very first NHS herbal medicine service at RLHIM, with products approved for safety and quality by UCLH Use of Medicines Committee. He also pioneered the now well established Group Acupuncture Clinics for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis, back and neck pain, and chronic headache.
He is a Council member of the College of Practitioners of Phytotherapy, and is developing research methods to assess the clinical benefits of individualised herbal medicines.

Dr Peter Fisher MBBChir, FRCP, FFHom
Director of Research
Dr Peter Fisher is an accredited specialist in both homeopathy and rheumatology. He has a special interest in the treatment of arthritis, rheumatism and connective tissue disease, integrating complementary and conventional medicine. He also has an interest in skin disease and general medical problems. He uses mostly homeopathy and nutritional methods, and works closely with other clinicians who practice acupuncture, herbal medicine, relaxation and stress management and other methods.
He was Clinical Lead of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence’s (NICE) NHS Evidence – complementary and alternative medicine, the NHS’s official knowledge website for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). He leads the RLHIM’s Complementary and Alternative Medicine Library and Information Service (CAMLIS) which provides unique access to the CAM literature. Dr Fisher has conducted a number of research projects in complementary medicine.
Dr Fisher is a member of the World Health Organisation’s Expert Advisory Panel on Traditional and Complementary Medicine who, in 2014, published their Traditional Medicine Strategy 2014-2023 policy. He received the Albert Schweitzer Gold Medal of the Polish Academy of Medicine in 2007. He is Editor-in-Chief of Homeopathy, published by Elsevier, the only journal dedicated to homeopathy indexed in PubMed and is a Fellow of the Faculty of Homeopathy. Dr Fisher is Physician to Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal Household.

Dr Helmut Roniger Dr Med Univ MMed DipAcp FRSocMed FFHom
Dr Helmut Roniger has been a consultant at the RLHIM since 2001. He originally trained as a GP in Austria and South Africa before specializing in Internal medicine in Cape Town. Since his student days in Vienna he wanted to integrate complementary therapies into conventional medical practice and studied first Anthroposophical Medicine, then Chinese medicine (with an emphasis on Acupuncture) before training in homeopathy in 1997.
His medical interests include heart variability monitoring, hyperthermia, yoga medicine, mindfulness meditation and hypnosis.
Besides being on the GMC’s Specialist Register for Internal Medicine, he is a member of the Austrian Scientific Acupuncture Society for Doctors and a Fellow of the Faculty of Homeopathy, sitting on its Board.
At the RLHIM he sees complex chronic medical problems which had an unsatisfactory response to conventional therapy like chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, IBS, IBD (Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis), allergies/ intolerances, depression/ anxiety and chronic pain.
He is a member of several research groups with a current emphasis on Patient Reported Outcome (PROMS) and the homeopathic treatment of influenza.

Dr Christian Hasford MRCP MD MFHom
Dr Christian Hasford is an honorary senior lecturer at University College London and the undergraduate lead in Medical Education (at UCLH), reflecting his deep commitment to medical education and advancement.
He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians, The Society of Acute Medicine, the British Thoracic Society, the British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, the British Medical Acupuncture Society and the Faculty of Homeopathy.
He has a long and committed interest in both conventional and complementary medicine and as well as running a clinic at the RHIM, he practices Acute and Chest Medicine at University College London Hospital.
Dr Hasford is a consultant in the RLHIM’s General Medicine and Allergy Clinics.
